    FOMO to YOLO to KUWTJ

Data dictionary to help you with this piece: KUWTJ – Keeping Up With The Joneses YOLO – You Only Live Once FOMO – Fear Of Missing Out Don’t fear failure so much that you refuse to try new things. The saddest summary of a life contains three descriptions: could have, might have, and should have. – Louis E. Boone, American academic author of contemporary business and economics This quote is so interesting to me. The first half, “Don’t fear failure so much that you refuse to try new things” epitomizes what I see many times in our personal and professional lives. Our own fear restricts us from becoming the best…

Recreational Outrage – Just Do NOT Participate

I’m back! Over the last two weeks, I have been on a once-in-a-lifetime trip with my wife and some great family friends, with both couples celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary. Although I did not completely unplug (after all, I wrote last week’s post in the airport), I did spend significantly less time online and on social media. This provided me some clarity regarding what is going on in our world today. I can’t pin down where I heard it first, but the term “recreational outrage” has quickly become one of my favorite new phrases to use. Let me define it in my own words: recreational outrage is anger over something…

Are You a Personal Finance Ninja?

The title of my piece last week got a lot of attention! Thanks, everyone for the emails and the banter! It was definitely a fun one! I did not intend to write a piece this week but a three-hour plane delay has made it all possible. While writing this piece, I am sitting in an airport bar in Denver with my wife and two of our closest friends. Both couples are celebrating 15 years of marriage this year, so we planned an epic nine-day trip to Hawaii. I apologize in advance for the brevity but I thought I’d write a piece that described the personal finance journey we’ve taken to…

    Health, Wealth, and Fecal Transplants

Last week I shot a video discussing my fears over Universal Basic Income. This week I want to tackle macroeconomics from a bit of a different perspective. I’ve noticed a trend amongst my more affluent friends: those who love their lives and have plenty of disposable income are doing everything they can to live longer. They are utilizing myriad resources, including personal trainers, food delivery services, stem cell injections, cold/hot therapies, and even fecal transplants. A few friends have actually told me they have goals to live until they are 130-140 years old! If people are doing this at a micro level, I’m curious to see if there is a…

Should We Give Away Free Money?

Full disclosure, the amazing person who edits my pieces before they go out is out of town this week without internet access. So I thought this might be the ideal time to try something different. So here is a short video of me discussing my thoughts on Universal Basic Income (UBI). **Action: Watch my video above. Watch this video discussing the positives of UBI. I’d love to hear your thoughts on UBI, shoot me an email or drop a comment in the 3AT Facebook Group.**
