What I am reading/listening to
I’m jumping into some autobiographies on Audible this week.
The family upbringings could NOT be more divergent for rapper Logic versus rock legend Dave Grohl. While both musicians grew up in the suburbs of Washington, DC, Logic was born into a chaotic life in Gaithersburg, Maryland, and raised by a mentally ill single mother while Dave Grohl was raised in Springfield, Virginia by a stable mother.
I really enjoyed listening to both autobiographies because it goes to show you that success and artistic talent can grow from such varied backgrounds. Both memoirs are good and made even more enjoyable because they were read by the artists themselves. Definitely worth checking them out.
Rapper Logic’s autobiography is entitled This Bright Future.
Rock Legend Dave Grohl’s autobiography is entitled The Storyteller.
Quotes I am Pondering
“All outward success, when it has value, is but the inevitable result of an inward success of full living, full play and enjoyment of one’s faculties.”
~ Robert Henri, American painter and teacher
“I love the smell of book ink in the morning.”
~ Umberto Eco, Italian medievalist, philosopher, and novelist
“Champions aren’t made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them – a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have last-minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill.”
~ Muhammad Ali, American professional boxer
