I Like Speaking
I’m not too big on self-aggrandizement, but I do like speaking. I think it is partially an ego thing, I mean who does not love the idea of being able to speak to a group of people and whether knowingly or not change someone’s life. But I think the main reason I do it is because I want to get better at it, and I want to get better at it because I respect the power of the spoken word. So for Three Action Thursday this week, I am sharing two of my own talks and one of my favorite TED Talks. Enjoy!!! **Action: Reverse Engineering Success at George Washington…

Pleasantly Surprised
I am typically skeptical when someone tells me I should read a memoir about a 30-something-year-old person. How much life can one really live in that time and have it warrant a memoir?! Well, I am happy to admit to being wrong. I judged the book by the proverbial cover and now I’m going to share with you one of the best books I’ve read so far in 2019: Tara Westover’s Educated. For those who need the social proof before committing to something: according to The New York Times, Educated was one of the 10 Best Books of 2018, and according to Time Magazine, Tara Westover is one of the…

The Fight Within You
As you may have noticed, I am on a little bit of a tear about using mindset to overcome the adversities of life. Last week’s piece, The Biggest Disability, was about Nick Santonastasso’s life and how each of us can rise above our challenges no matter how they manifest (even from birth). The prior week’s piece on the Necessity of Pain and Suffering reminds us that we are not special: no one is immune from suffering. This week I want to share a story about the fight within each of us. I had a challenge sourcing this story. Some say it stems from a quote attributed to Sitting Bull. Others…

The Biggest Disability….
Last week I wrote a piece on the necessity of pain and suffering. At the core of that piece was the ideal that your pain and suffering make you human and your reactions to life’s challenges are driven by your mindset. So I think this week’s piece dovetails nicely… “…The biggest disability is a bad mindset…” Meet Nick Santonastasso. Nick was born with no legs and one arm, and that one arm has only one finger. He has experienced physical pain, including surgeries such as the one he elected to have against his parents’ and doctor’s recommendation so he could wrestle in high school. As you would suspect, he has…

Pain & Suffering are Necessary
From time to time someone will share something with me that is so impactful that I have to share it with my Three Action Thursday readers. A good friend of mine sent me an email with a link to a video. The video is of Anderson Cooper interviewing Stephen Colbert. It is raw, emotional, and covers a topic that I personally have never really thought about: how pain and suffering are a necessity for the full human experience. Colbert is known for his quick wit and humor, both of which do show themselves in the clip, but he also takes the viewer to a bit of a darker place in…
