The MUST READ Book of 2019

Two weeks ago, I retold a story I heard from David Goggins that I called When You Get to Heaven. I did not get much into his personal story in that piece, but I promised a future post on his life and latest book; hence, today’s topic. David Goggins wrote about his incredible life story and overcoming any and all adversities in his book, Can’t Hurt Me. Can’t Hurt Me is a must-read covering how David went from an illiterate student and overweight pest exterminator to a highly decorated Navy Seal and ultra endurance phenomena. My book summary in two sentences: David Goggins’ autobiography is raw (expletive heavy) prose that…

    Recasting vs. Refinance

Rather than our typical write up on personal finance, personal/professional development, and building authentic relationships, this piece is going to be very real estate prescriptive. Whether or not you currently own a house, it is likely in your future as it is firmly cemented as part of the American Dream. Most people are familiar with the term “mortgage”, and with the historically low interest rates many Americans have learned the term “refinance” and have used them to their advantage. When You Get to Heaven

DISCLAIMER: Before all my Christian friends/family jump all over me for this piece, please do NOT focus on the theology of the story. Instead, please use this as an opportunity to reflect on your own life and as motivation to live your best life.   WARNING: David Goggins curses…a lot. I was listening to a recent interview with David Goggins, author of Can’t Hurt Me. (I digested the book quickly, and I can’t wait to review it for you in the future!) In this interview, Goggins describes his greatest fear, and it’s one that I personally think about a lot: the fear of not living up to our potential. He…

Making your bed ain’t so stupid!

Here’s the crux of my thesis behind this piece: a one percent change in your life, over time, compounds and leads to a much bigger impact in your life and the lives of others. Admiral William McRaven by all accounts had an amazing military career, but his “go viral” moment in United States’ history was a commencement speech he gave in 2014 at the University of Texas at Austin. In this six-minute snippet he covers a few topics including his reasoning behind his belief that making your bed might be the most important thing you do each day. I heard Admiral McRaven’s speech for the first time nearly five years…

    My Birthday Illness

March 3rd is my birthday. I had a great few days with my family and I scheduled all my adulting appointments/meetings. I like to use my birthday as an opportunity to reset and make sure I am doing ALL these “adult” things. Plus I want you guys to know that I practice what I preach. So here is my Friday March 22nd schedule (Dental, Physical, and Eye)… So in honor of my birthday, I got SICK!!!  I don’t get sick too often, typically a cold that I can battle through, but the night after my birthday I got nauseous and was running a low grade fever. I like to think…
