What Are You Doing? Who Are You?
Oh man, I’ve got some good stuff for you today! One of my favorite motivational speakers put out a new video, I talk about doubling down on authentic relationships, and of course pump you full of some quotes that will get you thinking. Motivational speaker Eric Thomas started in the inner city streets of Detroit. He was a high school dropout and homeless, and now he has been rocking stages from New York City to Miami to St. Louis to Los Angeles. Here is his latest compilation video, “Who are you?” This video was a shot in the arm for me. If you feel like you are languishing or that you are lacking self motivation and awareness, I would invite you to spend 9 minutes with this video and let me know your thoughts!
Concept I am Implementing
Building authentic relationships is a cornerstone of what Three Action Thursday is all about. I am often asked if it is something that comes naturally or something that can be learned. I am 100% a proponent of the concept that anyone can learn techniques and even empathy enough to strengthen and deepen the relationships around them. The techniques can be scaled and to some degree automated and still remain authentic.
In 2022, I am doubling down on relationships. One example in my business is that my leadership team and I have been brainstorming what unique things we can do to engage our team even further. As a result of these discussions, I am hiring an assistant for 10 hours per week to focus on systematizing our corporate communications and to plan and host monthly (sometimes weekly) events for our employees.
Outside of work, I have spent many hours reading on the subject of workplace satisfaction and building authentic relationships in business. I thought today I’d share a few of those book titles.
- Connect by Dr. David Bradford and Dr. Carole Robin (I covered it more here)
- Linchpin: Are You Indispensable? by Seth Godin (I covered it more here)
- The Fred Factor: How Passion in Your Work and Life Can Turn the Ordinary into the Extraordinary by Mark Sanborn
- Discover Your True North by Bill George
